Welcome to “Currents,” our newsletter written for fishing fanatics who want to go fishing in Alaska. Published annually, this email is intended to tell you who’s catching what, where, when and how. We hope you’ll enjoy reading about the latest news and happenings at Chinook Shores Lodge.
Jeff and Nadra were married April 20th among family and friends. We’re hooked on fishing, hooked on each other and look forward to fishing with you in Ketchikan, Alaska this summer at Chinook Shores Lodge!
For many reasons, May is the favorite time of year in Ketchikan and one of the reasons for this is the steelhead fishing. After a long winter the land and sea come alive, bursting with activity and one of the best ways to enjoy it is taking a little boat ride to a remote, pristine river near our lodge. Since the Naha River Recreation Area is a protected system, we are not allowed to guide on this river or lake. However, we allow our experienced self-guided anglers who return to Chinook Shores Lodge each year to take our self-guided boats to this location. Contact us to learn more about Spring Fly Fishing packages Chinook Shores Lodge. We are now booking May-June 2014.
Chinook Shores Lodge purchased two Hobie Mirage Outback Kayaks. Stand-out features include a nearly indestructible rotomolded polyethylene hull, a MirageDrive for paddle-free touring, ample above- and below-deck stowage, a Twist and Stow rudder for finger-tip steerage, and multiple molded-in rod holders. These kayaks are designed to fish and allow you to cast-or land the big one-without rocking the boat. Kayaks rent for $100 per day. Use the booking calendar on our website to make a reservation request and we will contact you to confirm.
Chinook Shores Lodge has a few remaining fishing packages available for the 2014 Alaska fishing season. If you haven’t already booked your fishing trip, these are the best times to fish with us this summer:
“Nonresidents have an opportunity to catch two king salmon a day through June 2014, they just have to fish west of the line from Niblack Point to South Vallenar Point,” says lodge owner Jeff Wedekind. Read about Alaska F&G King Salmon Regulations… Read about Alaska Fish & Game Halibut Regulations…
If you prefer not to rent a car, airport shuttle service to and from Chinook Shores Lodge is available. When you arrive Ketchikan International Airport, simply take the airport ferry across to the city side and look for either the white Chinook Shores Ford F-150 or our 15-passenger van. Many of our guests find it easiest to book the northbound Alaska Airlines flight #179 which departs Seattle at 10:35am and the southbound Alaska Airlines flight #60 which departs Ketchikan at 9:12am and arrives in Seattle at noon as check in is at 2:00pm and checkout is at 11:00am.
