2014 King Salmon Sport Fishing Addendum for Ketchikan Area Marine Waters Announced by Alaska Department of Fish and Game Division of Fish

Ketchikan, Alaska / April 24, 2014 — In order to reduce the harvest of Unuk River king salmon and ensure the Unuk River king salmon escapement goal is achieved, an addendum has been released by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game Division of Sport Fish in response to a press release issued April 2, 2014. [Black Area on Map] Area closed to salmon fishing May 27 – June 30, 2014.

[Black & White Dot Area on Map] May 27 – June 30 — bag and possession limits for residents and nonresidents is one (1) king salmon 28 inches or greater in length; nonresident annual limit of six (6) king salmon. Beginning July 1, regional king salmon limits of one (1) per day for nonresidents and three (3) per day for residents are in effect.

[White & Black Vertical Stripe Area on Map] Ketchikan Sport Terminal Harvest Area:

• June 1-June 30 — Resident bag and possession limit three (3)  king salmon 28 inches or greater in length; nonresident bag and possession limit two (2) king salmon 28 inches or greater in length; nonresident annual limit six (6) king salmon.
• July 1-July 31 — Bag and possession limit of six (6) king salmon of any size; nonresident annual limit does not apply.

[White & Black Small Dot Area on Map] Area closed to salmon fishing May 1 – August 14, 2014.

“Nonresidents have an opportunity to catch two king salmon a day through June 2014, they just have to fish west of the line from Niblack Point to South Vallenar Point,” says lodge owner Jeff Wedekind.

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game specifies this area in West Behm Canal as 55°32.998′ N Latitude, 132°07.228′ W Longitude (Niblack Point) to 55°22.878′ N Latitude, 131°52.747′ W Longitude (South Vallenar Point), further identified as south and west of the Black & White dotted area on the map above.
