So You’ve Booked a Fishing Trip With Us, Now What?
Five Things To Do Before Your Trip
1. Flight Reservations
We recommend Alaska Airlines for reliability when flying to Southeast Alaska.
- Lodge Check-In: 2:00 PM
- Lodge Check-Out: 10:45 AM
- Target Arrival: 11:00 AM (KTN)
- Target Departure: 1:00 PM (KTN)
Action: Email us your flight numbers (KTN arrival/departure): info@chinookshores.com
2. Fishing License Required
All non-resident anglers 16+ need an Alaska sport fishing license. A King Salmon stamp is also required to retain Kings.
- Purchase Method: Online only (Licenses are no longer sold in stores).
- Expedite Check-In: Print your license and stamp before arrival.
3. Transportation & Car Rental
Car Rental
Staying at Chinook Shores Lodge? A car is NOT required as our location is conveniently accessible by road and is located just 30 minutes from town. However, renting a car for your trip gives you freedom to explore Ketchikan. Our 2-person groups especially seem to enjoy having a rental car as they can easily pack up and explore the town after fishing.
- Staying at the Inn at Knudson Cove? Although the main lodge is walkable from The Inn, we recommend renting a car for your ease (Alaska Car Rental is local.)
- Staying at Chinook Shores Lodge? A car is NOT required unless you want to explore or dine out.
Lodge Shuttle (Chinook Shores Guests)
- Complimentary Pickup & Stops upon Arrival: Your driver will meet you right outside the baggage terminal for a hassle-free arrival. We will then take you to the grocery store and can make any other essential stops along the way (e.g., local takeout, sporting goods) before heading to the lodge.
4. Grocery Shopping
Ketchikan is a major commercial hub, meaning you have reliable access to full grocery stores and retailers for any last-minute gear needs—a welcome relief when traveling to Alaska.
- Recommendation: Alaska & Proud (Store #184, 3816 Tongass Ave.) our local Alaskan grocer offers a great selection.
- Note: Ketchikan Walmart is for sporting goods only—it does not sell groceries.
