COVID-19 Travel Mandates and Protocols
August 3, 2020

Alaska’s Governor Dunleavy announced a new travel protocol, which takes effect August 11, 2020. All travelers arriving the State of Alaska on or after August 11, 2020 must arrive with a negative molecular-based (RT-PCR) COVID-19 test taken 72-hours prior to departure or proof of a pending test result from a test taken within 72-hours prior to departure.

There will no longer be free COVID-19 testing at the Ketchikan airport for non-residents. If your test results are pending when you land in Ketchikan, you can go to the address listed on your Alaska Travel Declaration Form and self-quarantine for 14 days or the duration of your trip, whichever is shorter.

Options for COVID-19 Testing

  1. Contact your family physician immediately and schedule an appointment with your doctor to administer the molecular-based (RT-PCR) COVID-19 test 72 hours prior to departure.
  2. Search for a testing site in your area and schedule an appointment within the 72 hour travel window. Use this testing site locator…
  3. Order an FDA-approved home-collection COVID-19 test now, then self-administer the at-home test 72 hours prior to departure:

When you land in Ketchikan, you’ll be asked to provide proof of your negative PCR test and the completed Alaska Travel Declaration Form. After that, gather your belongings from the baggage carousel, walk outside the terminal and wait on the sidewalk for your shuttle. The white Chinook Shores Lodge van will be waiting for you.

This is the new normal. Anglers are welcome to visit Alaska as long as they can show a PCR test was taken 72-hours prior travel. Ketchikan, Alaska has some of the best fishing and lowest COVID-19 case numbers in the country, thank you for helping us keep it that way.
