The number of visitors to Alaska reached an all-time high of 1,966,700 between May 1, 2013, and April 30, 2014, according to a report recently released by the Alaska Division of Economic Development.

The Interim Visitor Volume Report 2013-14 shows that visitation exceeded the previous peak of 1,961,500 visitors set during 2007-08 by more than 5,000 visitors.

“Alaska’s tourism industry enjoyed a robust 2013,” said Susan Bell, Department of Commerce, Community and Economic Development (DCCED) commissioner. “Increased cruise ship calls and new air service, including domestic and international routes, are driving the growth.

Chinook Shores Lodge has seen an increase in both expressed interest and visitor numbers in recent years. The company offers complimentary shuttle service to cruise ship passengers looking for Ketchikan shore excursions and same-day fishing to guests arriving via Alaska Airlines.

“The large-scale tourism marketing programs initiated by the Alaska Travel Industry Association and Ketchikan Convention and Visitors Bureau complement our internal sales and marketing effort,” said Jeff Wedekind owner/operator of Chinook Shores Lodge.

Chinook Shores Lodge exhibits at a variety of sportsmen and outdoor trades hows each winter in states such a Washington, Oregon, Colorado and California to name a few.

“Many of our guests appreciate just how easy it is to get to Alaska’s First City, Ketchikan, from just about anywhere from the Lower 48,” Wedekind added.
