You booked a fishing trip at Chinook Shores Lodge, so now what? Here’s Five Things To Do Before Your Ketchikan Alaska Fishing Trip
December 31, 2019

#1 Make Airline Reservations

Fishermen travel to Ketchikan via the Alaska Marine Highway, Alaska Airlines or Delta Airlines every summer in search of salmon, halibut and other tasty seafood. We recommend choosing Alaska Airlines as they offer reliability, comfort, premium cabin legroom and movies. Select flights that arrive Ketchikan around 11am and when leaving the lodge select flights that depart Ketchikan around 1pm. Find low-fare flights to Ketchikan.

  • Lodge Check-In = 2:00pm
  • Lodge Check-Out = 10:45am

Please email us your flight numbers (arriving and departing KTN)

#2 Purchase Fishing License

Alaska Department of Fish and Game
Purchase Online

All nonresidents anglers age 16 or older must purchase and possess a sport fishing license to participate in Alaska sport fisheries. In addition, a king salmon stamp is required to retain king salmon. Sport fishing licenses and king salmon stamps can be purchased online. To expedite check-in, please purchase and print your license and stamp prior to arrival at the lodge. NEW: Starting in 2020, fishing licenses will no longer be sold at sporting goods stores — they will only be available online.

#3 Rent a Car

Alaska Car Rental is a local business with a variety of rental car sizes. Definitely RENT A CAR if you are staying at the Inn at Knudson Cove. If you are staying at Chinook Shores Lodge, you do not need a car unless you want to explore the island or go out to dinner. Otherwise, the lodge provides free shuttle transportation to and from the airport. On your arrival day, our shuttle driver will pick you up outside the baggage terminal, drive you to the grocery store and wait for you to shop before bringing you out to the lodge.

#4 Shop for Groceries Online

Alaska and Proud

Ketchikan has a few different grocery stores including a Safeway; however, Alaska & Proud is an independent grocer with a great selection. Online shopping is available at the store #184 located at 3816 Tongass Ave. If you order groceries prior to your arrival in Ketchikan, our shuttle driver will drive you to the store so you can pickup your groceries and anything else you might need before driving you out to the lodge. Note: Ketchikan also has a Safeway Grocery Store and a Walmart Sporting Goods — Ketchikan Walmart is not a super store with groceries.

#5 Pack Lightly

People often ask us what type of personal equipment they should bring to a our lodge. While we strive to provide everything you need, these are some items you can bring to make your trip even more enjoyable.
