World Class Alaska Fishing —  Minutes Away in Calm Water!

One of the best King salmon drags in the Ketchikan vicinity is right off our beach, which peaks from late May through July. The best Silver fishing is only minutes away from the lodge and the pink salmon are everywhere. Halibut are also available nearby. All of your fishing at Chinook Shores can be done in the calm waters of the inside passage.

General Alaska Fishing Information

Fishing Licenses are required for persons 16 years of age and over. The cost is $55 for a 7-day license, which may be purchased here or at King Salmon Stamps are also required for all persons 16 years and older to keep King (Chinook) Salmon. They cost $30 for a 7-day stamp and can be purchased here or on line.

Fishing Rods & Reels are included at Chinook Shores. For Salmon we use 7-8 ft. medium action Salmon rods with a Penn 320 reel and 30# Maxima monofilament line. For Halibut we have 5-6 ft. Heavy rods with Shimano TLD or Penn reels and 100# Tuff Line. We also have an assortment of spinning rods for kids of all ages to fish off the dock for salmon, small bottom fish and perch.

Fishing Tackle for bait fishing in our unguided boats is included. For additional bait and supplies you can visit our new tackle shop.  We carry all the hottest jigs and rigs for halibut fishing and plenty flashers and hoochies for salmon fishing. If you like to tie your own salmon hooks we suggest a 6 ft. long leader of 30# test with two 4/0 or 5/0 salmon hooks snelled about 4″ apart.

Unguided Boats are aluminum 20′ Silver Streak Hardtops and North River Sea-Hawks that seat 6 people with welded windshields; canvas tops; built in Fish boxes; 115 hp 4-stroke outboards; and trolling motors. Each boat is equipped with Penn down riggers; four rod holders; Garmen Fish Finder & GPS Chart Plotter, Marine VHF Radio, large salmon net, gaff hook; bilge pump; bait bucket & bait knife; fire extinguisher; flares; life jackets and last but not least a Potty bucket with a toilet seat.

Guided Charter Boats  are modern 28′-30′ six-pack cabin cruisers with flushing toilets, comfortable cabins and spacious fishing decks. Our experienced guides will see to it that you are comfortable and that any special needs are met. Hot coffee and water are provided on the boat, all you need to bring is a sack lunch and other beverages if you wish. We also have rain gear and boots available to keep you clean and dry.  Choose from Salmon, Halibut or combination trips.

Freshwater Fishing around our area is great in the spring and fall for trout and steelhead and in August for salmon, rainbows and cutthroat.  Sellf-guided fishermen can access these rivers and creeks by boat and along the Ketchikan road system.  We do not supply rods for fresh water spin or fly fishing, however if you bring your own the river will be waiting for you.

Fish Processing is included with our deluxe guided fishing packages and Self service vacuum packing facilities are available for unguided anglers to process there own fish at no extra charge.  If you would rather not deal with your fish, custom processing is also available for our unguided fishing guests and all we ask is that you tip our fish processors accordingly. Recommended tip for each employee is $25/day per boat.
